MILTON - The Milton Harvest Festival's Little Miss and Junior Miss pageants, held Monday night in the Milton Area High School auditorium were, as usual, real crowd pleasers.
This year, 5-year-old Samantha Snyder of Milton and 11-year-old Sarah Young of Montandon shined the brightest and were crowned as Little Miss Princess and Junior Miss Princess, respectively.
"It's really fun," Samantha said as she acknowledged her excitement.
"It's awesome," Sarah said, with tears of joy in her eyes.
All the candidates performed well, leaving the night's judges with some tough choices.
Barbara Williams of Milton, the event's mistress of ceremonies, kept the crowd into it during the down time and in between the personality, talent and question and answer portions.
Williams, who has spent many years in the pageant scene, said some good lessons came out of the event.
She said the candidates take home a bundle of confidence as they've conquered a situation that makes many adults weak in the knees.
In addition, the girls learn that they can't always win, but they can still try their best.
Williams said there has been so much change in them between the first practice and the final show. Denise Ulmer of Milton, the pageant chairperson, agreed.
"It's a flurry of activity, and the little girls all have wonderful attitudes," she added. "They're becoming little ladies before your eyes."
Ulmer said the pageant provides the girls with a chance to see what they can do for themselves and will likely make them want to be a part of other activities in the future, like at school.
There's little time to rest until next year's pageant. Next week, Ulmer plans to critique this year's taping of the pageant to see how they can make it even better for next year.
